US Army Awards $1B for Switchblade Kamikaze Drones
The US Army has signed a massive contract worth nearly $1 billion with AeroVironment for the delivery of Switchblade series loitering munitions, also known as kamikaze drones. This five year deal is part of a larger effort to enhance the lethality of infantry units, making them as effective as formations with heavy armored vehicles. The contract covers both Switchblade 300 and 600 models. These tube-launched loitering munitions offer highly automated target engagement capabilities and man in the loop control functionality.
